PhD Research Fellowship in Experimental Social Psychology


Description
A PhD research fellowship in experimental social psychology is available at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. The fellowship is part of the research project "Phenomenology and outcomes of feeling touched or moved."
The project aims to study subjective experience, appraisals, physiological correlates, and motivational outcomes of the emotion of being moved, a frequent but understudied emotional experience. In general, the project investigates this emotion as regulating communal relations. It features a variety of measurement approaches and a cross-cultural component. Data collection is planned in Norway, the US and China, and will include laboratory work, online data collection, and interviews in the field.

The appointment is either for a period of three years (with no teaching requirement), or for a period of four years with a 25% teaching requirement. The fellowship period may be reduced if the candidate has previously been employed in a research fellowship position.

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. Candidates must have completed higher education equivalent to a Norwegian Master degree in Psychology or a Cand. psychol degree. Requirements
We are looking for qualified and highly motivated candidates with the following requirements:
  • A master's degree or equivalent in psychology, or a cand. psychol. degree, qualifying for admission to the PhD programme at the Department of Psychology (note the requirement of a 2 year MA or equivalent).
  • Applicants with grade points A or B on the ECTS scale will normally be qualified for admission to the PhD programme.
  • Knowledge and experience in experimental social psychology and solid knowledge of its standard statistical methods are required.
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of emotion research are highly valued.
  • Knowledge and experience with online data collection, programming, and psycho-physiological measures are highly valued.
  • Excellent written or spoken English language skills.
  • Norwegian language skills or the readiness to acquire an adequate level quickly. Courses and seminars that are part of the PhD programme will normally be held in Norwegian.

Plant-pollinator interactions Ph.D. studentship

A Ph.D. studentship Plant-pollinator interactions along an Afrotropical altitudinal gradient.

 We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student to join a project assessing studies of plant-pollinator relationships between selected flowering plants and their pollinators on Mt. Cameroon.

The research is focused on changes of general characteristics of pollination networks along the altitude, as well as on case studies of selected pollination systems.

 The student will process already collected data and material, as well as actively participate on field sampling (at least two times during the study) of data and their subsequent processing in collaboration with international specialists.

The length of the study is 4 years. The successful applicant will be supervised by Dr. Stepan Janecek and Dr. Robert Tropek (www.insectcommunities.cz) as a part of the multidisciplinary team at the Faculty of Science, Charles University of Prague with a close collaboration with the Institute of Entomology and Institute of Botany, Czech Academy of Sciences.

Offered - attractive scientific topic in an established international team - standard university scholarship (up to 114,000 CZK annually according to discharging of the study responsibilities) and a part time employment (132,000 CZK annually), it sufficiently covers living expenses in the Czech Republic Required - enthusiasm in nature and ecological science - ability to lead a field research in challenging conditions of tropical environments - fluency in English - a MSc degree in biology or related fields (in summer 2016 at the latest) Desirable (but not necessary) - previous experience of collaboration in scientific projects evidenced by a (co)authorship of research papers or conference contributions - previous experience with botany and/or pollination biology - basic knowledge of French
